The Flaxbourne Motel is situated on State highway 1, Just an hour from the Picton ferry terminals making this the perfect comfortable overnight stop to break up your trip or spend the day exploring the local rural area.

Places to visit....

Ward Beach - Spend a few hours exploring our local beach, there are plenty of different stones and driftwood to collect. At certain times of day, you may catch the local fishermen launching or coming in on the cray boats. The force of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in November 2016 lifted the sea bed by about 2 metres creating an ideal spot for surfers.


Cape Campbell Lighthouse (via Marfells beach) - The lighthouse was originally built in 1870 but replaced in 1903. 4 hours return walk along the beach.


Yealands Winery - Take in the beautiful scenery and Seaview as you drive through the vineyard. www.yealands.co.nz

The Molesworth - The Molesworth Recreation Reserve with its stunning scenery is just a 15-minute drive north of Ward and runs through to Hanmer Springs. (This road is not open all year) www.doc.govt.nz
